UNDER CONSTRUCTION
In February 2019, Tamar’s Hope become the proud owner of a magnificent empty lot of overgrown weeds and centuries-old debris. Then after much work of drafting proposals with our architect, clearing the space, and navigating through the red tape with local authorities, we broke ground exactly two years later in February 2021. Slow but sure, construction continues to create something entirely new and befittingly beautiful!
THE DREAM TO BUILD A 3200 sq ft MINISTRY CENTRE RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF LA LINEA IS COMING TRUE!
As of June 2022, the first of three stories is now complete and fully functional as the main open meeting area for our drop-in centre and routine activities. Work will continue soon the next levels for meeting rooms for workshops, adult education, clinics, counseling and more; and office space for our future staff. Our vision for the centre is to not only serve the hundreds of sexually exploited women working in the immediate area, but also to be a strategic central location to reach into many other red-light districts throughout Guatemala City.
The proposed budget of $297,000 CDN ($243,000 USD) includes the complete building, furnishings, security wall and a landscaped courtyard. Because of the concrete and cinder block style construction, we are able to build one level at a time. It’s so great to be already using what we do have to serve the many women from La Linea. And they are as excited as we are to continue on with the next phases!
Thanks for your generosity!
